Five minutes past midnight, the first convoy of tanks leaves Goudi heading towards the polytechnic school. Insurgent citizens fight against the police forces at a 3 km radius. A whole area between Piraeus street, Kapodistriou, Ipirou, Stournaram Chalkokondili and Patision, in front of the polytechnic school is barricaded: cars, buses and rubble block riot police, who are forced to call for crane lorries in order to remove the obstacles. The radio station and Polytechnic loudspeakers transmit messages to the Greek people and soldiers, asking the latter not to strike against their brothers: “we are unarmed. We’ll welcome you with applause.” The iron rails of the polytechnic schools hold a banner saying: “Soldiers, you are our brothers”. Read more
