Samos
Samos is located in the central Aegean Sea and is the 8th Greek island in size. It is just 1200 km from Turkey and covers 477 sq/km. The prefecture of Samos includes the island of Ikaria and Fournoi with a total population of 34.000. The island is shaped like an oak tree leaf or a hare looking over the East. Geographers, who study Samos, have conflicting views about its size, shape and perimeter. Samos was the birthplace of a great culture and it was here, that many well known artists, scholars and philosophers, lived. The great mathematician and philosopher, Pythagoras, whose theories had a profound effect on the universal mathematic thinking, was born here.
